20 weeks: Huffalump v 2.0 Photoshoot

Well, the 20-week ultrasound went well. The tech kept saying, "Whoa, it's active!" and "Did your first one move around this much?"

Sigh.

Yes, yes it did.

I'm feeling lots and lots of rolls, nudges, pokes and kicks now (last night, right till 2 am! Yay!), and Chris has felt a few as well... but that might have just been something he ate. Ha ha!

I haven't been able to SEE the kicks from the outside yet, but I'm sure it's not very far off.

Anyway, all measurements went well, and we're very excited to announce that it's a...

... Baby!

Nope, we're not finding out this time either, so you'll all just have to wait and see what kind of demon we produce in June! Complaints may be directed to my assistant, Fis.

Big Boys Do...

...love sleighrides! Note the rosy cheeks and nose!

...brush their teeth twice a day! V has 10 teeth (including 2 bottom molars) (and there are two top molars that are just about ready to pop through), and he enjoys the toothbrushing song...and slurping on the toothpaste!

...sit in big boy carseats! Now that he's 29" long and 22 lbs (official 1-year stats), he was given the go-ahead to switch to a forward-facing carseat. He is SO proud of himself, and thinks it's just great to be able to see Mommy and Daddy.

(Note: this car seat is good till he's 57" tall and 100 lbs... which means that I could use it, if I were an inch shorter...which means that I'm too tall for something! Woot woot!)

...love to get clean! What's better than bathtime? Apparently, showering is great fun, too!

...practice for when they're old enough to mow the lawn. Thank you Shirley and Paul! When Vaughn gets going, nothing is safe! Not walls, furniture, ankles...

Vaughn's First Birthday

Wow. I can't believe that the V-man is one already! Our little guy has changed so much, and honestly delights us every day with his laid back (yet awesomely happy) personality, his smiles, his snuggliness, and his new tricks. Yeah, we like him a lot.

I present to you:

The ABCs of His Huffness (Junior)'s First Birthday

A is for Apple.
Big boys eat entire apples by themselves! Ruby, his lovely dayhome provider, gave him an apple, which he refused to give back till it was completely devoured. Even then, it was a struggle to get the core away!

B is for Balloon.

It's o-FISH-al - the Birthday Boy loves Balloons! It's also official that he can say "Banana"...and "daddy" and "change" and "book" and "Torco" (an engine oil company whose t-shirt Chris was wearing yesterday)... yet still no "Mommy". Bah.

Ok, really it's January 9th, at 7:15 in the morning. Mommy's a bit tired.

This photo reminds me of Winnie-the-Pooh, when he dresses up as a raincloud.

C is for Chocolate Cake!
Of course, like his mom, Vaughn took to his birthday cake like a pro.

Are you sure I can eat this whole thing?

Nom nom nom

D is for Domestic Goddess
...who made two types of cupcakes (a chocolate chip cookie cupcake and a chocolate cupcake, both from the cupcake cookbook kindly given to me by another DG I know... I iced them with snowflakes, keeping with the winter theme, and presented them in my cupcake holder - thanks, Diana!).

E is for Everyone!
EVERYONE came to V's party, and somehow, EVERYONE fit into our living room! E is also for eleven, the number of kids that came, with moms and some dads too (yikes), but somehow, everyone had a great time and there were no meltdowns... Eeegads. Vaughn was the ultimate host, circulating, smiling, and asking to be lifted up by anyone who was standing. Everyone was way too generous!

Above, clockwise: Vaughn, TJ, Chase, Samantha, and Oliver start a pigpile.

L to R: Penny, with Rhys on her lap; Margaret with Samantha on her lap, Taryn (foreground), Cameron, Lana with Lauryn, and Graydon with Jennifer.

Thank you to everyone who sent well wishes (and way too many presents) to our little guy - you made his first birthday truly wonderful and memorable.
